Some of Maria's projects I derived inspiration from:

From my research into Maria it was clear that a simplistic, at times sketchy hand style would be a good place to start. These initial sketches and layouts allowed me to start finding the balance between the future-vintage aesthetic of the film and her casual minimalist sketches. This was fairly challenging as is apparent form the disparate sketch styles on the first page. I also took inspiration from some of Walnuts more graphic work and her layouts. The main thing that has become clear is to not make the poster too pastiche and try and develop my own style that only references hers. I wanted to also have some subtle contextual meaning behind the illustration/design as I felt something purely aesthetic wouldn't convey the film properly. This manifested in the ideas of having one of the lenses of Theodore's glasses slightly out of place to convey his detachment from reality and featuring him in profile with a line mirroring his face to represent the AI as a product of himself. The next step is to get these vectorised.
