Today we were given the brief for a self branding project in which we will produce marketing material for ourselves and our goals. We started my splitting into groups and describing each other, this was easy and jovial at first with peers I knew well but later got a lot harder when we were forced to mingle and engage with some not so familiar faces. Peoples idea of me seemed to be headed up by my initial audio and visual appearance, with comments saying I was posh, have a deep voice and like high end clothing. The observations didn't extent much further than this with little comment on unique creative personality features, rendering them fairly non helpful for my USP. However possibly the fact that my personality creates ambiguity over which categories I might fit into, is something I can play on.
In the afternoon I brainstormed possible ideas and niches I could find, as seen bellow. I think the idea of an anamorphic business card really appeals to me due to its potential multicomponent make up and the ability for each component to represent a certain skill. Perception is also a key theme I am very interested in and works well as symbolism for the creative direction/vision aim. The links to Gestalts theory that a series of components can be viewed as a whole are also something I could play of contextually. However the nuances of my idea were somewhat criticised by tutors and I think some refinement would definitely be needed.
My other main train of thought was to play on my belief that I am a juxtaposition of myself in the form of a precisely laid out business card with grid marks left on that would then be scrunched up in a ball.
I struggled to come up with an exact name for my branding and this may have to be ongoing. However I think I have narrowed down the key elements I want to use, making this an easier task for tomorrow.
