Today we presented our film festival 'Spark' to the rest of the group. I think we've known that our festival wouldn't provide much competition from maybe even as early as Wednesday this week. We had a real uphill battle to get everything done on time due to the hiccups around the logo type change and how long that dragged on for. I could attribute this failure to a bad team work decision at the start of the week when we wasted time by all going away and creating potential logotypes that ended up all being vetoed by Penny. In hindsight we should have gone for a group approach to the type straight away as I feel even allocating it would have been a mistake. This problem could even also have been a product of our name indecision as I feel we had a lot of strong ideas in the brainstorm but the name Spark was in the end just settled for as we struggled to sum them all up. The fact (nearly) everything was finished for the presentation however is testament to our commitment and team work towards the end of the week and I feel our proposal was by far not the worst.
In terms of the actual presentation we changed our plan last minute so that everyone in our group said something about the final products and process instead of just me and Ollie. This decision was made in accordance with what other groups were doing and to get everyone involved. For this reason the presentation was a little disjointed and some things may have been left unsaid. It was also pointed out that our presentation was a little too wordy which I would agree with because we hadn't put any time into rehearsal so were reading a lot off the screen. More pictures in general would have been better to get our ideas across. Another fault was picked out with our poster designs as they featured classic images of actors that did not correspond to the film selection at all. This was an area I had no input in but did think the same thing myself when it was too late to change it. More time/better time management would have improved the festival massively as the underlying themes and ideas were largely there.
Looking at others work it was clear that everything has just fell into place for some groups and they had really hit the ground running allowing them to create far more professional presentations and further developed ideas. Things we could have added include: contextual film references within branding and presentation, interactive elements within the presentation itself and further promotional materials.
